Posters on the Subway
My photos are on the subway..something like 2000 of them! These posters were for a campaign for CSA which stands for the Council for Supervisors and Administrators. They are the union for all the NYC School Principals and Assistant principals as well as other school administrators. This is the 2nd year they hired me to do some portraits for the campaign. Each person in the photo is being honored for excellence in their jobs. This is quite a visible honor to be all over the subways. Mario Aguilar , the graphic designer and Jai Starr the makeup artist were awesome to work with. CSA is a great group of people to work with too!!
Donna And Stewart, Bryce And Jackson
This was a milestone session. This is the 9th and last session of the family series. This was Jackson’s standing up session and he is standing up pretty well next to his big brother Bryce. Donna and Stewart made an amazing wall collection of the photos we have taken together over the years. Their house is a family art gallery! They are an amazing family and just like all familes..they have a full life and a full schedule and a full house with 2 boys in a small NYC apartment. So what do do in a small space…get up on the window and use the vertical space.
Rea and Ralph
Their story is a long one and in a different order then what you might expect. First love, then 2 kids, and then a grandson. And then they decided to get married. Rea was changing her grandson’s diaper when I was trying to take getting ready photos of her. This was a first!! They have the most history of any wedding couple I have ever photographed …years of love …(and breakups and fighting and makeups and making things better….) This couple moved me so much and I hope to write more about it at another time. Until then..here are some images from their great and memorable day!! A testament that working at a relationship over time can turn deeper and more intense and loving then ever.
Circus Kids
Creative Collaboration is a key to my happiness. I was wanting to photograph something new and met with Mam Smith, an awesome aerialist, dancer, choreographer and long time friend. We met with with some kids who are part of LePetite Cirque in LA, run by Nathalie Yves Gaulthier and met at the beach. I only a couple hours with them and photographed as fast as possible before the light went down. We had a blast and this shot ended up on the cover of Pyramid, The Journal of American Youth Circus. I thought they did a great job designing the cover.
Learning in New Orleans
I just got back from PPA which stands for Professional Photographers of America. They hosted a photo conference in New Orleans. Classes start at 7am and go all day into the evening. I get to be a student again taking notes like crazy hoping to remember and execute even a fraction of what I learn. Having the conference in New Orleans was a bonus so I stayed an extra couple days to explore. I loved walking around the French Quarters and stumbled upon a gem of a photo gallery; Agallery.com The owner, Josua Pailet bought images directly from photographers like Henri Cartier-bresson, Ansel Adams and Sebastiao Salgado. He spent a while answering my questions and educating me on how the world of art dealing works. I am grateful for his impromptu education. Other highlights were the Piano Bar at Pat Obrien’s, grilled drum fish at the French Market, a ride on the Trolley (Street Car they call it) and a visit to the Insectarium (yes..a museum about insects) It was a great trip.
